Pretty soon, you’ll be able to play Minecraft and many other games and earn cryptocurrencies! How exciting is that!
The company behind this initiative is Enjin Coin, founded in 2009 and based in Singapore. I’m sure you’ve all heard of Bitcoin and possibly other cryptocurrencies, but there’s actually well over a thousand different cryptocurrencies. The ones that are more well-known and traded, at least here in the US, are Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin.
A few months back, Enjin Coin announced an initiative for a gaming multiverse where game assets can be shared, traded and moved among different games and have real value using blockchain technology. This is now being called Blockchain Gaming and many companies have come together to form the Blockchain Game Alliance.
At the time of the announcement, six games were announced that would make up the first of this new gaming multiverse. They were Age of Rust, 9Lives Arena, CryptoFights, War of Crypto, Bitcoin Hodler, and Forest Knight.
None of the above games are released yet but this is just the beginning of games backed by and handled by blockchain technology.
Shortly after that, it was made known that a plugin for Minecraft would give those blockchain enabled Minecraft servers the ability to trade and have real value for you in-game assets.
Watch this Dev Diary below:
Imagine playing Minecraft and making real money doing it! Well, at least cryptocurrencies that you would then be able to trade on the exchanges for real and usable cash.
Don’t get too excited though. That diamond sword you just made in Minecraft won’t be worth a real diamond in real life. It’ll be worth something, but not that much. An enchanted diamond sword would be worth more, but again, it won’t make you rich in real life…. Yet.
With the exception of Minecraft, the other games mentioned above aren’t from big game developers so you might think that this won’t hit the big time. Well, you’re wrong.
Last month, Ubisoft announced with Enjin Coin that they’re joining the Blockchain Game Alliance. Can’t wait to see what comes of that!
Who said gaming can be a waste of time? What if gaming can now earn you money? Soon enough, earning by gaming won’t be limited to those professional competitors or streamers. Can’t wait!!!
